  1. I believe that the articles of confederation were weak because they didn't want to worry about taxes. Citizens apart of government might also disagree about positions. The articles of confederation might wanted to not listen to complaints.

    1. Sam,

Excellent job in your response and in class today. Your speech was well written and the acting was great. What made the Americans so nervous about taxes? Were they only worried about taxes or were there other concerns as well?

    1. Pavia,

Excellent job. First of your class to respond. What evidence do you have that proves that your answer is correct? I'm not saying that you are wrong. Just want you to prove why you're correct.

  3. The Articles of Confederation were weak because the federal government had no power. They had no money and could not afford a military to protect against foreign powers.

    1. Kaitlin,

Great job. You are correct. In your Read 180 class, have you come across any stories where someone knew things had to change but they discovered it was not going to be easy to do that? If so, how is this like what we have learned.

  4. The articles of confederation were weak. The new government just wanted to gain the trust of the colonies. And the colonist didn’t want taxes and so many other things. So the new government didn’t have the power to have taxes and other laws that would have made the first government stronger but, the colonist were worried that the government would get too much power and take over. Therefor the colonist didn’t give the government much power so that’s why the first government was very weak.

  5. I think the Articles of Confederation are weak, but they had to be. They needed to test the first government and make sure it would not turn out like England again. They kind of needed a ''prototype''. They did not want to risk having the government to have to much power. So I do think the do think the Articles of Confederation were weak, but they had to be for a reason. Mike Frezza Per 3

  7. I beleive that the Articles of Confederation weakened America as a country. They added silly rules such as "borrowing money for the war" and "13 states must vote for major laws". This was all true, but the Articles had to be done. Why, you ask? Well, the government was frightened that by making a powerful government, one person in power would take leadership over the country. This however, never happened as the Articles of Confederation ended. But, the Articles did cause problems with the citizens. Appearently the debts were "too high" which cause them to rebell against the government. This was very stupid since the government was trying to work everything out. These rebellions made things even harder. This is my opinion on the Articles of Confederation.

  8. I think the Articles of Confederation were weak because it was the first government, so they were like the Guinea pigs. They had to see what would go wrong with the government, so they could further modify it. Another reason the Articles were weak was because of some of the laws that they had established. Like how the government could not tax. because of that, they could not afford to raise an army, so they had no protection against foreign armies. I mean, they couldn't even control a group of angry farmers during Shays's Rebellion, so what were they supposed to do when an army of thousands are attacking? Their government basically had no power and no protection for the country. They made all these big mistakes just so that they didn't have to risk their government turning out like England's government again. So was it really worth everything that happened, just so they could try a different kind of government, a newer one? The answer is kind of opinionated, but i don't really think it was worth everything, just so that no one had to much power. ~ Sarah DeCamp -p. 3 2/14/13

  9. The Articles of Confederation were weak due to that they did not want to run too powerful as England has done in the past. There were strengths, but the weakness mostly overcame it, so then that is what had made the Articles of Confederation the weakest. Due to the Congress lacking strong and steady leadership, it had allowed for the states to not even bother and to just pretty much ignore and not follow any order. How could you run anything without collecting taxes or not even try to build a strong government? But then each state could issue their own paper money, which leads to the states having their own little small taxes. Basically, they mainly gave all the 13 states 100% freedom without giving out a few rules and a organized government.
That is why the Articles of Confederation fell apart.

  10. I think the Articles of Confederation were weak because it was the first government and there was no money system. Each state printed it's own money. it was worthless in other states. Also the congress could not control trade between states. And there were no courts to settle arguments between states.Congress could not collect federal taxes. so the country could not pay it's debts, also could not raise an army.and there was no president to lead the country.and this is way the Articles of Confederation fell apart in the first place and that is why i think the Articles of Confederation is weak.

  13. I believe the Articles of Confederation were weak due to the lack of a strong confident government. Also they were afraid of 1 person overpowering them just like England did.It gave the states too much power basically. Since they just got out of the monarchy, they were hesitant to give so much power to one person. Therefor there was no executive system meaning there was no president. Laws weren't enforced and taxes weren't collected. Trade couldn't be regulated and it was basically everyone for themselves. Thankfully they only lasted roughly eight years. This was nothing but chaos. Shays's Rebellion sums up most of it and that is a great example of what all of this led to.

  14. I belive that the articles of confederation was weak because they were afraid one person would get to much power, and would ruin everything. Which was the case because some people tried getting power so they could take over so this prevented it.

  16. Hi Mr.Caravano,

this is Tyler Sproul I went to Washington D.C. this weekend and when i tried to load the page on my phone it would not load. I hope you will still accept my entry. The reason why the articles of confederation were weak was because the founding fathers did not want to be overthrown as england was, they wanted to unite the colonies to a country not split them into thirteen different countries.
P.S. i will not be in school tomorrow i have an upper respiratory infection.

  17. I think that the A.O.C was weak because the citizens didn't want the congress to get over powerful. The citizens were afraid that the congress would do the same things England did.

  18. I dont think the confederation was weak bacause we dont need a strong gov. if we have a strong government the laws will be past to fast that the government well start to make mastakes. If we have a really weak gov things well go very slow for laws to be pasted and mayhem well strat but the gov. will not react fast enough

  19. The AOC were weak because it didn't have enough laws to support the people of the U.S.A. The people could easily overrun the government.
