Are You Down With L,L,P?

In class we have discussed the importance of John Locke and his ideas concerning "natural rights".  What were John Locke's ideas?  Do you agree or disagree with Locke and the other philosophers of the Enlightenment? Please explain your opinion completely by using your own ideas and beliefs, and the historical information that you have learned in class.  All students must respond once.  Period 3 students must respond to someone else's response, for a minimum of two responses.  Good luck.  I look forward to reading your comments.

  1. John Locke's ideas were the Natural Rights (Life, Liberty, and Property). I do agree with John Locke. Without his ideas, a government would probably be a little more chaotic. We would have nobody to watch over us or protect us. His ideas changed the government system into something clean and a little more simpler. It may be hard to understand, but its a better government than what we could have had.

johns ideas were the natural rights. Life,Liberty, Property. I do agree with john because without his ideas everything would be so violent, and caotic. The goverment did change and become more easier. I know the goverment isnt easy to understand but it was a better environment!

  3. The ideas of John Locke were as simple as life, liberty, and property. These were the properties of the Natural Rights. I do agree with his ideas, only because we wouldn't have the kind of government we have today. His ideas created an easier way of government, and without it, the United states would go into a panic. We would all fight over little things. We wouldn't have our homes as long as we do. Without Natural Rights, people could take away our land, and our lives without going on trial.

    1. Don't forget about the Social Contract, though! Without that, we wouldn't have equal and fair laws. So not only did the Natural Rights have a say in Government and Law, but the Social Contract did to.

John Locke's ideas were the Natural Rights (Life, Liberty, and Property). I do agree with John Locke because if we didn't have his ideas i don't think that we would have the government we have today and if we didn't have have his ideas the government would be caotic. The government changed and is more easier and simpler. without the Natural rights not would be easy an everything would be crazy and the government could just take your land.

    1. I agree with you almost fully. Like Fin said in reply to my post, you can't forget the social contract. Thats basically where Natural Rights came in. they were described in the social contract. thats what gave us the laws we have today, also known back then as common laws. Because of those laws, we have the freedoms of life today.

I do agree with you Alison, but the government we have now isn't all that easier and or simpler. If anything it is a little harder in the way of how the government works. There is more of a process. But other then that I do agree with you.

John Locke's ideas were the Natural Rights. They were Life, Liberty, and Property. I do agree with his ideas. If he didnt give his ideas, our government would probably be a little different, and not as orginized. We would not have the protection we have now, and if we had property then other people probably would have some control over it, or just take it from us. So the government we have now if alot better then what we could have had.

John Locke's ideas were good! He introduced the idea of LLP which was Life, Liberty, and Property. He wanted freedom! If it wasn't for his ideas we wouldn't be the way we are today. There probably wouldn't be any control over anything. I believe the government we have today wouldn't be the way it is if it wasn't for John Locke. He pretty much saved us from a lot of destruction.

  10. I agree with Locke's ideas,I agree because everyone should be treated equally and live their life the way they want. All he wanted was for every one to enjoy life. No one wants to live their life slaving for someone , or have someone telling them what to do no matter your skin color, religion, or culture. Thanks to John Locke I'm free, you're free , We're FREE !

I agree with John Locke's ideas, because LLP stands for Life Liberty and Property, those are our natural rights. I believe that everyone should be treated equally and fairly, and everyone at at least one point in their lives should be given the opportunity to those rights. No matter what, even if their skin color is different than yours, you should still treat the people around you with respect, even if you don't know them.

  13. L.L.P. stands for the saying Life, Liberty, and Property, said by John Locke. This means that no one is able to take away you life, liberty, and property. I agree with this saying, and this was formed into Natural Rights, which is what we you till this day.

  14. John Locke came up with the idea of (life, liberty, and property) or L.L.P if you like and i agree of his Enlightenment because with out it people won't have right wich becomes Natural Rights.

  16. John Locke believed in LLP, what is that you ask? A statement in which he though everyone should have equal life liberty and property no matter what race, age or gender they were. I agree with his ideas because without it today the world would run into total anchary, people being enslaved, more hunger and most importantly a dictatorship could be established. So, therefore, I am down with LLP! You know me!

  17. John Locke's ideas were Life, Liberty, and Property, also known as the Natural Rights.
I do agree with both, John Locke and the other philosophers of the Enlightenment. If it weren't for his ideas, the whole form of government and laws would have been completely different than it is today. We could have possibly still have monarchs ruling over and having a whole lot of power, but we don't, we have a governor in each state whom do not have all that power like monarchs did back then.
Anyways, in conclusion we would have not have as much freedom as we do right now,. We would have been overpowered by kings and queens, and not have any freedom of speech for ourselves. But thanks to John Locke, he has changed that for us.

  18. John lockes ideas of natural rights were life, liberty and property. I do believe in these belifes and the thoughts of the philosophers from the enlightened age aswell because it ridiculous to try to explain something you don't know about without realistically thinking or useing logic. The enlightened ones spread a way of going through life without complete guidance from your religion. And because of john Locke we have a government body that America is famous for.

    1. I think that is ridiculous to have any idea but not be able to explain it in a way so that everyone can understand. I also think that you should not have to go through life only guided by your religion and only follow that path. This idea of Living is not a way that in my opinion you should live. This is a way that a person with no freedom would live not like us. Frezza per 3

  20. I agree with john Locke's idea's being born into the right to live, own property, and freedom. If we did not have any of these things in our favor what would make us any different from any other third world country. I think that is unrealistic to form a country and not have any freedom, property, or even the right to live. Then Baron De Montesquieu had any idea to have The government separated into three different branches. This was a very well thought idea because if we did not have the government broken up into three Sections we would have one goverment take over a country and possibly have wa genisde. 24. I agree with John Locke's idea's about the natural rights (Life, Liberty and Property). If we didn't have the Natural rights we would be like how we are today. If anyone took the rights away from you they could get into trouble or u would be exacuted.

  30. I agree to john locke. Because llp is the right to live to have freedom and to own property. Not just own land but the thing's you need to survive. A person should have control over LLP NOT the governmet.
